About SkyMap Lite
SkyMap Lite is a sophisticated star charting and planetarium program that’s perfect for casual and novice astronomers.
SkyMap Lite has been designed specially for new astronomers. It can display the sky as seen from any location on earth for any date between 4000BC and 8000AG. SkyMap Lite shows fields of view ranging from the entire visible sky down to a detailed telescopic “finder chart” for a faint galaxy.
Good Reasons for Using SkyMap Lite:
•SkyMap Lite allows you to easily and flexibly move your map around the sky, rotate and zoom in and out with a single click of the mouse
•SkyMap Lite displays more than 2.5 million stars as faint as magnitude 11.5, displayed in their approximate true colours
•View more than 15,000 deep sky objects - star clusters, nebulae, galaxies - virtually every object which can be observed by a small amateur telescope (and many that can't) is included in SkyMap Lite's extensive database
•Display the positions of the Sun, Moon, and major planets. SkyMap Lite fixes positions with an accuracy of a small fraction of an arc second
•SkyMap Lite displays the names, official boundary lines, and "stick figures" of all 88 constellations
•Display the positions of all known asteroids and comets. Updated asteroid and comet data can be downloaded free of charge from the SkyMap Lite website, or activate automatic updates from the internet
•SkyMap Lite displays a wide range of different coordinate grids and scale lines showing altitude/azimuth, RA/dec, ecliptic and galactic coordinates
•Get detailed information on any object known to SkyMap Lite with a simple click and add your own "annotations", including text labels, lines or arrows, eyepiece field of view circles, camera and CCD field of view rectangles
•Print your high-quality SkyMap Lite star charts easily on any printer supported by Windows
•Search and locate millions of objects from SkyMap Lite's huge databases
•SkyMap Lite comes with a large collection of photographs and CCD images. Pictures of any object can automatically be downloaded and displayed via the internet, and you can add your own photographs and CCD images to create your own custom picture library
